Brockwell Live 2027–2031
Consulting on our long term ambition
Brockwell Live brings together a series of independent music and cultural events in Brockwell Park each May. Over 140,000 visitors attended across the five shows in 2026, with more than 25,000 of them being Lambeth and Southwark residents. Alongside locals, the series saw visitors from across London, the UK and overseas.
As we develop our proposals for 2027-2031, we're inviting feedback from the local community. We recognise that large-scale events have an impact and we're committed to being good neighbours throughout this process. We want to ensure local voices are heard and reflected in our plans.
Over the past year, we've listened carefully to feedback from residents, community groups and local stakeholders, and that feedback has helped shape the proposals we are putting forward.
We intend to apply for up to five-year planning permission and a new premises licence. This would provide a longer-term framework for Brockwell Live, while importantly, retaining yearly oversight of how the events are planned and delivered.
The proposals largely build on previous years, with only limited changes, including a modest increase in the event area (approximately 2% of the park) and a phased 16% increase in capacity over the next three years.
We understand that some people might have concerns, and we hope the information provided below offers wider context around our proposed plans for the future. We encourage you to review the information below and share your views, as your feedback will continue to inform and refine the final application before it is formally submitted.

Music, cultural and community events have been part of Brockwell Park’s history since the 1970s, and festivals that now form part of the Brockwell Live series have been operating in the park since 2018.
Each year, significant work is undertaken to plan responsibly, protect and restore the park, engage with local communities and review how the events can be improved. These commitments remain fundamental to how Brockwell Live operates.
A five-year planning and licensing framework would provide an opportunity to build on the formal planning approach established in 2026, creating greater continuity between individual event years. Reducing some of the repetition associated with annual applications would allow more time and focus to deliver the wider benefits and opportunities associated with the series, while annual monitoring, community engagement and operational review would continue.
This would help us take a more joined-up approach to park stewardship, biodiversity and community partnerships, with initiatives planned and reviewed over several seasons and in close partnership with park stakeholders.
What would 5 years allow us to do?

Our proposed approach would establish the parameters within which Brockwell Live could operate between 2027 and 2031, subject to the approval of a yearly Event Permit by Lambeth Council.
Up to Six Event Days
The proposals provide for a maximum of six live event days each year, always operating across two weekends only, one of which is a bank holiday.
In 2027, Brockwell Live will retain the same five-day structure across two weekends as 2026. The sixth day provides flexibility for an additional event day in future years as the individual festivals develop and audience demand evolves.
Not every permitted event day would necessarily be used, and any future programme would remain subject to the appropriate annual approvals.
The application will also include provision to operate a pop-up community cinema during the week between the two main event weekends, building on the community cinema introduced in 2026.
A Stepped Increase to 35,000 Capacity
We are proposing a gradual increase in maximum capacity from 29,999 to 35,000 over three years, rather than moving immediately to the proposed maximum.
The increase reflects the strong communities that have developed around the individual events and growing audience demand. In 2026, both Mighty Hoopla and City Splash sold out.
Importantly, the additional capacity would be accommodated on the established event footprint, rather than through expansion into a significantly larger area of Brockwell Park. The footprint would occupy around 27% of the total park.
Note: total capacity is inclusive of all staff and artists.

Introducing the increase progressively allows us to monitor performance and impacts before progressing to the next stage. Existing entrance infrastructure can be adapted to manage the additional audience flow, with entrance and exit continuing to be reviewed through annual operational planning.
The local transport, pedestrian and event-management infrastructure around Brockwell Park has an established track record of supporting major events with audiences of up to 49,999 people, including the Lambeth Country Show. The proposed Brockwell Live maximum of 35,000 remains significantly below this level, with transport and audience movement continuing to be reviewed annually.
-
A five-year approach does not mean that how the events are delivered remains fixed for five years. Independent monitoring, annual review and operational oversight will continue throughout the proposed term, allowing our approach to proactively respond to evidence, changing conditions and experience each year.
We will continue to appoint independent third-party specialists to monitor key areas of event impact using established methodologies. Findings will be constantly reviewed and used to identify where protection measures, mitigation or operational plans can be further developed, and to highlight areas for future investment.
A particular focus will be understanding change over time and identifying and preventing cumulative impacts on Brockwell Park's biodiversity and natural environment.

A Long-Term Approach to Brockwell Park
Brockwell Park is at the heart of the event series, and its long-term protection and stewardship is central to how Brockwell Live operates.
Our approach is informed by independent monitoring of the park's trees, grass & soil and biodiversity, helping us understand changing conditions, identify potential impacts and target interventions where they are most needed.
Across these areas, our approach follows three principles: Monitor. Protect. Invest.

Investing Back Into Brockwell Park
Alongside the measures required to protect and restore the park following each event series, the Brockwell Live partnership contributes to three distinct areas of investment in Brockwell Park.
The proposed five-year approach provides an opportunity to continue these commitments while taking a longer-term view of where investment can deliver the greatest benefit.
1. Park Investment Levy
A proportion of the event hire fee is allocated to the Park Investment Levy, which is lead by Lambeth Council and used to support investment and improvements within Brockwell Park.
This sits within the wider rental fee paid by Brockwell Live for the use of the park.
2. Remediation & Park Infrastructure
Brockwell Live directly funds the remedial works required following the event series, with the programme of works developed in partnership with Lambeth Parks and informed by independent specialist assessment.
This includes investment in grass and soil recovery, such as aeration, fertilisation and reseeding, alongside agreed works to park infrastructure where required.
A programme of pathway works will also be undertaken.
The objective is not simply to respond to visible impacts following the events, but to support the condition and resilience of the park over the longer term.
3. Biodiversity Fund
New for the proposed five-year period, Brockwell Live will establish a dedicated Biodiversity Fund focused exclusively on improving Brockwell Park's natural habitats.
The fund would sit in addition to the Park Investment Levy and our existing remediation commitments, creating a dedicated source of investment for biodiversity enhancement within the park.
Investment would be informed by ecological monitoring and developed with Lambeth Parks, park stakeholders and relevant specialists, allowing funding to be directed towards initiatives that can deliver meaningful habitat improvements over the five-year period.
Potential areas could include habitat creation, tree and shrub planting, grassland enhancement, improvement to ponds and sustainable drainage, and measures supporting birds, bats, invertebrates and other wildlife.
Sustainability: Reducing the Impact of Event Delivery
Alongside protecting sensitive areas and investing in Brockwell Park, we are committed to reducing the environmental impact of how Brockwell Live is built, operated and removed each year.
Our sustainability programme focuses on practical measures across energy, waste, materials and audience behaviour, with performance reviewed after each event series to identify opportunities for further improvement.
Cleaner Energy
We use HVO fuel as an alternative to conventional diesel across all areas of event infrastructure and plant, helping to reduce the emissions associated with temporary power and event delivery. No Direct Waste to Landfill
Brockwell Live operates a no direct waste to landfill approach, with waste sorted and separated on site to maximise reuse, recycling and composting rates across the event series.
Sustainable Travel
Travel is one of the largest contributors to the overall carbon footprint of live events, making how audiences, staff and suppliers travel to Brockwell Park an important focus of our sustainability approach. No staff parking is provided on site, with event teams encouraged to travel by public transport wherever possible. We also work with a range of transport providers including TFL, Southeastern railway and E-Bike providers such as Lime, Forest and Voi to encourage audiences to use public transport, cycling and other lower-carbon ways of travelling to and from the events. In 2026, 73% of Londoners travelled to Brockwell Park by public transport.
Reusable Cups
Our reusable cup scheme reduces reliance on single-use drinks packaging, with cups collected, washed and returned to circulation across the event series.Continuous Improvement
We will continue to track sustainability performance year on year, using data from each event series to understand our impact, measure progress and identify areas for further improvement.
We will also work closely with our suppliers and specialist partners to introduce emerging best practice, new technologies and more sustainable ways of working, ensuring our approach continues to evolve throughout the proposed five-year term.

Brockwell Live is part of a busy and diverse local area, and maintaining an open, ongoing relationship with the communities surrounding Brockwell Park is an important part of how the event series operates.
Community Engagement is a distinct area of our approach, providing year-round opportunities for discussion between residents and the event team. The frequency of this would continue throughout our five-year approach.
A Year-Round Conversation
Community engagement takes place throughout the year, offering platforms for residents to contribute before, during and after each event series.
From 2027, we are proposing an updated programme of community meetings in December, March and September following requests from both residents and ward councillors. This will allow for earlier consultation with the local community.

Year-Round Community Liaison
From 2027, our Community Liaison Lead will become a year-round role, providing residents and community groups with a consistent point of contact throughout the planning, delivery and review of each event series.
This will provide greater continuity to conversations with the local community, ensuring that feedback and discussions can carry from one event year into the next rather than being concentrated around the event period.

Alongside ongoing engagement, Brockwell Live delivers a programme of community investment, free activity and opportunities for Lambeth residents.
Over the proposed five-year term, we want to build on these programmes, developing longer-term partnerships and increasing the positive impact they can have for communities around Brockwell Park.
Resident Ticket Ballot: Free access to Brockwell Live for local residents
Our Resident Ticket Ballot provides households around Brockwell Park with the opportunity to attend Brockwell Live events free of charge.
In 2026, 3,000 free festival tickets were allocated across 1,500 local households through the scheme, supporting more residents to experience the events taking place in their local park.
The Resident Ticket Ballot is set to continue throughout the proposed five-year term, maintaining free access to the festival series for local communities each year. The allocation would increase if a sixth live event day is introduced in future years, ensuring the level of free festival access available to local residents grows alongside the event series.
Brockwell Together: Free community events
Launched in 2026, Brockwell Together expanded our free community programme to appeal to a broader local audience, including family, music, culture, film, creativity and wellbeing activities during May Half Term.
New additions such as Ritzy in the Park were particularly well received, helping us reach new audiences and create more ways for local people to benefit from Brockwell Live outside the ticketed festival programme.
Planning is already underway for the 2027 programme, building on feedback and learnings from the first year to develop the programme further.
Community Fund: Direct local investment
The Brockwell Live Community Fund has provided £212,000 to local organisations and community projects, supporting initiatives that benefit communities around Brockwell Park.
The 2026 Community Fund has awarded a further £25,000 to local organisations and projects.
The Community Fund will continue and increase annually throughout the proposed five-year term, providing ongoing investment in grassroots organisations and local initiatives.
Skills & Opportunities: Creating pathways into the industry
Brockwell Live creates opportunities for local residents to work at the events, gain practical experience and learn more about careers across the live events industry.
Our programme includes opportunities across different levels of experience and accessibility:
Local employment drive, including opportunities across event bars, security and production teams.
Entry-level event roles, providing community members with their first opportunity to work on a major live event and gain practical, hands-on experience.
Behind-the-scenes tours, introducing young residents to the range of roles involved in delivering large scale events .
Accessible employment and work experience opportunities with Levelling the Field, helping to create more inclusive pathways into the industry.
Over the proposed five-year term, we aim to continue developing these opportunities and strengthen pathways for the local community to access meaningful work and experience within the events industry.
Local Partnerships: Working with organisations that know their communities
Our community programmes are developed and delivered alongside organisations with specialist knowledge and established relationships with Lambeth communities.
Our 2026 partners included Reprezent Radio, Junior Open Mic, and The Ritzy.
